About Us

Quest Jr. Drum and Bugle Corps was founded in September 1990 in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, NY by five men (Bill Horde, Jerry Horde, Michael DeCharbert, Victor Basaba and William Parker) dedicated to the growth and development of our young people through the venues of the performing arts. It was a tough road right from the beginning, and, instead of giving up, the five men added a sixth man who they were involved with about ten years prior. That man is Ashley Crummey, who was once the Co-Director of the Manhattanairs Senior Drum and Bugle Corps. To our pleasant amazement, Ashley Crummey had held on not only to the instruments, but the uniforms of the senior corps as well. A meeting was held and each founder agreed to bring in as many kids as possible. The initial number was fourteen members, but that number quickly doubled. Practice sessions were held in housing complex basements around the city and in the basement of William Parkers house. Unfortunately, the sound was too loud for the neighbors, so practice was relocated to city parks for a while. Ashley C. received permission from the Salvation Army Church, where he holds the rank of Major and Assistant Pastor, to practice one day per week in the building. QUEST finally had a home base. In the spring, QUEST proudly marched in our first parade down 5th Avenue, sporting twenty year old horns and twelve year old uniforms originally fitted for adults. The horns and uniforms were older than many of the marchers, but by the end of the parade route, a dream turned into a reality. May our eyes see clear, May our minds burn bright, May our hearts beat strong, For we are forever.......... "Quest"

2007 Featured Staff Alumnus
On June 1, 2007 a new tradition was started with Quest, our Annual Recital & Awards Night. On this night a special section will be devoted to acknowledging our past Staff and Board members for their exemplary service to the Quest organization. This night belonged to Mr. Herschel Vaughn, III. His service started in 1990 as a percussion instructor and through his service of more than 10 years lead him to many positions in the organization (visual designer, guard and drill instructor, board member and director of the drum corps). Herschel has always shown dedication and commitment to the development of our participants and was truly respected by all.
Recital & Awards Night
What a joyous occasion it was to close out the program year on June 1, 2007. Quest held its First Annual Recital & Awards Night at our home, Middle School 35 located in Brooklyn, NY. Mr. Thomas Fisher, Executive Director was Master of Ceremonies (pictured with Mr. William DeWalt, Band Director) to a group of participant’s, family, supporters, friends, staff and mentors who were honored and recognized for their hard work in achieving program and personal goals. Quest funders were also recognized and awarded plaques to show appreciation for their financial contributions to the success of our programs delivered to the youth and the community. The evening included musical performances of toe tapping numbers by Quest participants and future mentors of a newly developed mentoring program. Special recognition was given to the Principal of MS 35, Mrs. Jaclyn Charles-Marcus & the SCO Family Dynamics Beacon @ MS 35 for their unconditional support of our programs. A Proclamation received from Borough President Marty Markowitz was read to the audience and was received with great admiration. This is a major accomplishment for the Quest organization. This intimate setting left room for laughter, dancing, great music, delicious food and much needed relaxation. Video footage, to commemorate this night, was undertaken by Heavenly Affairs Productions for distribution to participants family, friends and sponsors. The night ended with delicious food catered by RCL Enterprise, located in Rockaway Queens. What a fabulous end to an even more fabulous night! It’s always great to have events like this to take the time out to say “Thank you for all you’ve done”. We will make this a yearly event and develop it into a major part of the program curriculum for participants. It will have the characteristics of a Right of Passage into the next stage of their development and accomplishments. Look out New York “WE HAVE JUST BEGUN”! Check our Photos Page for additional photos of the night.
MS 35 2007 Graduation
As Artist-in-Residence @ MS 35, the Quest staff (Mr. William DeWalt, Band Conductor) produced the musical portion of this years graduation ceremonies which will be held at Medgar Evers College. This is a testament to our commitment to the “Build-A-Band Project @ MS 35” where we are fused into the school community and have become a permanent presence at the school.
